[Flexradio] SO2R out of the box once we had the RX2

This is nothing new to the communication industry. In the telephony world
such hardware changes come along all of the time in the form of a PCN
(Product Change Notice). Sometimes the PCN is nothing more than a change in
a particular chip manufacturer and is rotated in the field during normal
purchases, others it could be a critical fix in the hardware that software
could not address. Then there is the new feature/functionality that we ask
for that requires both a hardware and software change, something we pay
extra for out right and have to rotate into the field where needed.
Regarding the new feature/functionality PCN scenario, an old adage comes to
mind; careful what you ask for, you just may receive it. We asked for this
functionality from Flex Radio through our discussions on and off the
reflector. It requires a hardware upgrade in order to implement. Flex
Radio listened to their customer base and developed it. So Flex Radio is
not to blame for listening to their customers and taking action. We the
customers now need to individually decide if it is a feature/functionality
that we could use in our own station, and if so, then purchase the upgrade
and not complain about it; remember, we asked for it.

Now here is another philosophy for you; not to say that Flex Radio would
ever do this, but definitely food for thought as it does happen within the
industry. If the take rate on this new feature/functionality is too low
such that it will be impossible to recover developmental and manufacturing
dollars, and considering that the feature/functionality was suggested by the
customer base, would you as the manufacturer be quick to take another chance
on implementing some other new hardware feature/functionality that gets
drummed up by the customer base?

The radio I probably kept the longest (so far at least) was a yaesu
FT-1000D, I bought one of the first ones and held on to it for almost
10 years. A few years after it came out they came out with a pin diode
modification for TR switching. I sent mine in and had the pin diode
modification done. It could about 150 bucks shipping plus their time
and labor.

Did Yaesu cheat me by improving the radio? When I owned a 756 Pro2,
did I feel cheated that I couldn't upgrade it at all when the Pro3
came out? No and No.

I really don't think our friends in Austin did anything underhanded
nor with ill intent. If you factor in the cost minus the rebate for
returning the old board, its less than I paid for shipping for the
1000d.

as you live.
