While waiting for my 5000A to come next week, I've been doing some reading.
It seems like a dual core processor has a real advantage for running the
5000A. I have a 2.6 GHz P4 PC with 1 GB RAM and have run the 1000 with it. I
even used it at 192 kHz, though it was a stretch. I went down to 96 kHz with
the FA-66, but mainly because of filter shape. I was able to set the buffers
to get a sharper CW filter at 96 kHz versus 192 kHz.
I understand with the 5000, I'll be able get sharper filters without having
to lower the sample rate. I also understand that higher sample rates produce
lower latency, essential for QSK operation. I wonder if I'll be able to run
192 kHz on the 5000A with my single core P4. I'll know for sure after the
unit arrives. But I'd like to hear from others. I was hoping not run out get
a dual core just to use the 5000A.
