[Flexradio] Flex reflector question

I dropped out of the HPSDR group a while back but I think Gerald is
reflecting their approach with the idea of a Wiki. I am sure that the
various project members were exchanging emails/conversions amongst
themselves. Some of the discussions or requests for ideas/suggestions
made it to the HPSDR reflector but I doubt that each and every
question occurred on that list. Once the issue was resoved or the
decision was made by the project manager, or a test was performed with
results to share, it went on the wiki. So the wiki served as a
bulletin board to highlight the major approaches being taken or the
latest tests that were performed.
While I am a programmer and very interested in learning from these
guys, these guys are the ones who brought us to where we are today and
ultimately own (with Flex) the direction where we are going. I
honestly have opinions (everyone does) but as Bob always says, its
much easier to talk about the development than rolling up your sleeves
and doing it. If you are not participating, you don't deserve much of
a vote on the programming issues. Therefore, my opinion shouldn't sway
their ideas/decisions.
Therefore the programming decisions belong to those doing the
programming. The marketing decisions belong to Flex. Its Flex's
business to poll the user community to see how we feel about things.
As with any company, they get to choose the best way to do that and
they have relied on different mechanisms over the years. I am sure
Gerald will always appreciate user input and is happy to receive our
input.
At this point, in my opinion, the version of software, based on the
current architecture once it incorporates the second receiver, is good
enough to justify my purchase (and satisfaction) with the radio. Thats
just my opinion. I know one of the marketing points was that the radio
will always be improving and I have no fear in whatever direction they
take it I will go there but still, status quo still makes this radio
better than anything else I have owned. There may be some point where
a user doesn't want to go where the "future" is headed, and then you
have a decision to make. Is this radio the one I want? Gerald
definitely wants that answer to be yes so Flex will work as hard as
possible to both keep the users onboard with the future direction as
well as make the current version better than any other radio in its
class.
In summary, I support the wiki for architecture/programming topics. I
think once those issues/experiments near production, its Flex's job to
make sure we as users or potential buyers, want it.
