The F5k uses FireWire to speak MIDI. The fact that it's FireWire is
transparent to the application. The important piece is that the endpoints
are MIDI ports.

That said, Java won't be needing to talk to the F5k directly; it will be
communicating instead with the Virtual Radio Kernel via a simple messaging
protocol.
